Great things are happenings at The Good Work Collective in Traverse City! As part of the NEXT TOWN SQUARE community brainstorm project, artists have been in painting 4′ x 4′ panels. I chose to do a Lake Michigan shoreline scene entitled “Echo the Shore”. It’s for sale along with works by the other artists and part of the proceed will go to benefit the collective.
Here’s a bit of the process…
I sketched out the general shape of the major elements, first in pencil and then using large, house paint brushes (via Home Depot – no need for fancy here) filling in with some base color… in essence, sketching with paint.
I then built layers to create motion, depth and vibrancy. (Featured photo) It’s a tricky process and I’ve never worked on a painting of this scale. Admittedly, I get into the zone and lose track of my surroundings. I’ll “wake up” to crazy things that have happened in the lapse. This time I discovered a path from my Converse treads, neatly stamped in sandy-colored paint across the hardwood floor. “Angela was here!”
The finished painting! Like it? Want to take it home? You’d be getting some original art and supporting a good cause. Let me know if you are interested. The price may be negotiable on this one.
Very pretty!
Reece now owns this. Thank you!
